Magical Mystery Tour
September 21, 2014Note: this blog post should be read whilst listening to the following song: “Mama, You Got a Daughter” by John Lee Hooker.
Okay hey. So it’s been awhile since my last post. The date is Sunday, September 21st, and I last touched this thing on the 31st of August, so awhile equates to exactly three weeks in this case. There’s something about blogging on a Sunday, isn’t there? Except instead of being “on” and merrily typing away into the night after a restful and productive weekend, I’m lying in bed at 2:38 in the afternoon in my kimono, dying from those two grilled pineapple margaritas (okay, maybe a little more than just that) last night. Things just ain’t like they used to be. Plus, my sister’s in town on her way to London via Switzerland, so I’ve got a valid excuse to fall back on!
Anyhoo, what’s been happening in the last few weeks in the world of Beatrice Lee Photography? A lot. For the first time yesterday, I seriously thought to myself, “I wish I had an assistant. Oh wait, how would I pay them on my measly photographer’s earnings? Scratch that. I wish I had an intern!” A problem I never thought I’d have. A problem I’m grateful for.
I’ve done my first mama-and-kid yoga shoot. I’ve shot a 600-person yoga event (the biggest ever in Hong Kong!) and had the joy, the pleasure, the honour of having things come together SO nicely for me that I got to work alongside one of my best gals, my favouritest human beings on this planet, Ms. Claudia Whitney in doing so. Talk about sweet, sweet collaborations…not to mention the fact that she’s back on the yoga scene teaching again (post-babe) and that I did a quickie photo shoot with her and her superhuman other half, Jason Nogoy; they’re about to launch a “HAPPY HOUR” yoga class. She’ll teach while he DJs. Watch this space…er, that space. Hmm what else. I’ve shot two of my girlfriends, both beautiful, talented, effervescent, and creative chicks (looking at you Louise and Danielle!) on VERY hot days, in VERY colourful settings.
Wow. I guess that’s it. These past 21 days really flew by. I’ve been on top of the world, with my head in the clouds, but my feet on the ground…I think. Recently received news from the good, kind, and most importantly unwaveringly supportive folks over at Stretch City that they’d like to fly me over to Singapore to shoot the next big outdoor yoga event, as in #OmTogether: Part Deux. What does this mean for me? I don’t know, but I like it, and am going to go with it.
October is shaping up to be a pretty busy month already, with a lot of baby (newborn, yoga, costume parties!) shoots planned. There go my weekends. And it may or may not be somebody special’s birthday coming up soon, ha! But you know me, I’m so happy to give my days up to do what I love. Here’s hoping that this momentum lasts…until the day I really do need to find myself an intern! Anyone? Anyone? The tariff bill? The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act? Which, anyone? (Name that movie!)
OK, that’s it for now. I’ll touch base again soon.
